Herrlicher

A manufacturer of the finest textiles

Back in 2004, when we were founded, we consciously avoided extravagant metal or plastic hangtags. We use only paper hangtags for all Herrlicher garments. These are attached to our items with a cord – here, too, we consistently avoid plastic threads.

A few years later, in 2010, we decided to use even less promotional material on our products. The paper hangtag with cord was replaced on all trousers with a paper waistband pin. Of course, this isn't attached with plastic threads or metal clips, but is carefully sewn onto the waistband. With this measure, we save the environment hundreds of thousands of cords every year. The paper tags that are disposed of with waste paper can also be recycled and reused in paper production. In our stores in Munich and Dortmund we also rely exclusively on paper bags – with paper handles, of course.

Herrlicher – the small, fine label – produces its items primarily in the Mediterranean region: in Italy, Greece, Istanbul and Izmir, as well as in Bulgaria, Portugal, Tunisia, and Morocco. Our manufacturers are small, family-run businesses. Mr. Licher knows the owners personally, and we visit them every two to three months. We also know many of these companies' employees personally – the collaboration in developing new collections is close and collaborative. Fair trade, social justice, and the treatment of wastewater have been part of their daily practice for many years.

Transport routes within Europe are short – this saves energy when shipping our Blaustoff pieces to Munich.

However, there are also select manufacturers in China and India that we have carefully chosen – to ensure a good price-performance ratio for certain product groups. These products, by the way, don't arrive on huge container ships, but travel to Munich in a more environmentally friendly way on the Trans-Siberian Railway.

"A little bit of environmental awareness is always possible."

Erwin O. Licher, October 2022

"Timeless is a central concept in Herrlicher's philosophy: creating clothing that isn't subject to the fast-paced fashion cycle. Pieces that are suitable for all seasons – blue fabric pieces that you'll enjoy wearing for a long time.

These aren't great feats. But every small step helps our environment."

Erwin O. Licher, March 2015
