Everything about washing properly

How do I wash my jeans?

Always read the care instructions on the jeans label carefully before washing them for the first time.

For the first wash, it's best to wash jeans with clothes of the same color to prevent discoloration. You can also test for color bleeding by washing the jeans separately with an old white cloth.

The detergent should be bleach-free, so it's better not to use powder detergent, but liquid detergent. Color or mild detergent is best.

For stretchy pants, be sure to omit fabric softener.

To avoid annoying snagging of fabrics and threads in the washing machine, close all buttons and zippers beforehand.

The washing machine drum should not be overfilled to avoid wrinkles or streaks in the pants.

How do I dry my jeans?

• Before washing and drying jeans for the first time, check the care instructions to see if the jeans are suitable for tumble drying.

• Pure cotton jeans can usually tolerate tumble drying.

• If your jeans can't be tumble dried, hang them up well so that no wrinkles form.

• If the jeans are a bit stiff after air drying, you can put them in the dryer for a few minutes. Many dryers often have 5-minute wool programs or similar.

• Jeans usually don't need to be ironed; if they do need to be ironed, just turn them inside out.

General Tips

• Jeans shouldn't be washed unnecessarily often, because even the best fibers can suffer from frequent washing. Washing too often also harms the environment. It is said that jeans can be worn about 5-10 times before they need to be washed.

• To maintain the longevity of your jeans' color, you can occasionally soak them in a 1:1 vinegar-water mixture for an hour before washing. The vinegar fixes the color in the fibers.

Washing Myths

• Myth: Putting your jeans in the freezer overnight is supposed to kill the bacteria.

Reality: There are odor-causing bacteria that thrive and multiply even at temperatures below -18 degrees Celsius. And who wants to put their jeans next to pizza and fish sticks? So it's better to leave them and wash them.

• Myth: Simply hang your jeans in the shower; the steam will clean and smooth them.

Reality: For this effect, the steam would need to be at least 70 degrees Celsius. So you don't need to take your jeans with you when you shower.

Conclusion: Wash your jeans from time to time. If you follow the care instructions and treat your jeans well, you'll enjoy them for a long time.
